Job Description Summary:

Responsible for treating clients with emotional, behavioral, and mental health disorders through licensed counseling sessions. This position conducts one-to-one, group therapy, or family sessions, referring patients to other specialists as needed. Additionally, this role involves conducting interviews, testing, and risk assessments to evaluate mental conditions and formulate treatment plans. In addition, this position provides billable services at assigned outpatient clinics and offers case management and education to clients, family members, and other involved disciplines. Responsibilities for this role include ensuring comprehensive care and support for patients throughout their treatment.

Job Description:

  • Consults with physicians, patients, hospital staff, family members, or significant others to resolve barriers to treatment progress and ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintains records of behavioral health interventions, assessment, diagnostic impression, and treatment for accurate statistics.
  • Makes timely referrals to Federal, state, county, and community agencies.
  • Develops relationships with agencies to ensure appropriate service delivery to patients.
  • Assesses patients for behavioral health needs and provides referrals as needed. Other duties as assigned. Provides provisional diagnoses for mental health issues according to DSM-V and consults with additional team members when identified. Demonstrates working knowledge of the involuntary commitment process. Evaluates for potential safety risks appropriately and responds to potentially dangerous situations to ensure patient safety in the least restrictive manner. Utilizes evidence-based interventions to help patients, families, and significant others cope with the psychosocial aspects of illness and treatment. Assesses mental, behavioral, and emotional disorders, applying DSM criteria for diagnosis. Establishes treatment plans, including consultations when needed. Provides individual, family, couples, and group therapy as indicated. Intervenes in urgent and emergent mental health problems. Develops treatment plans with psychiatric providers as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Demonstrate specialized knowledge and skills for effective clinical interventions with individuals, families, couples, and groups. [Required]• Knowledgeable in developing appropriate treatment and discharge plans to provide continuity of care based on the patient’s needs in collaboration with other healthcare providers. [Required]• Knowledgeable about community services and the ability to make appropriate referrals as needed. [Required]• Knowledgeable about adequate safeguards for the private nature of the treatment relationship. [Required]• Knowledge of the principles, laws, and practices of independent licensure requirements. [Required]• Ability to recognize, identify, and communicate potential abuse and neglect issues with patients and family members. [Required]• Ability to provide culturally competent service delivery in accordance with the NASW Standards for Cultural competencies. [Required]• Advanced clinical practice skills. [Required]• Bilingual English/Spanish [Preferred]

Education:
• Master’s [Required]

Field of Study:
• Graduation from an accredited master’s degree program, counseling, or a related field, and licensure exams along with required post graduate supervised internship experience in a psychiatric inpatient or outpatient setting.

Work Experience:
• As a clinical social worker in a psychiatric hospital or outpatient clinic setting, Experience should include individual, group, and family therapy treatment and discharge planning in a therapeutic care setting. [Preferred]• Prior experience in billing and coding [Preferred]• Prior experience with working EMR and billing environment. [Preferred]
